Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus infection in twin infants.
Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus, previously known as Streptococcus bovis biotype II.2, is an uncommon pathogen in neonates. Nevertheless, it can cause severe neonatal sepsis and meningitis often clinically indistinguishable from those caused by group B streptococci and has been associated with considerable morbidity. We report the first known cases of S. gallolyticus subsp. paste...
متن کاملNeonatal bacterial meningitis caused by Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus.
This report describes a case of neonatal bacteraemia and meningitis due to Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus. Based on the identification kit results, this species may have been reported as Streptococcus bovis or S. bovis biotype II. The accurate identification of this organism is mandatory for evaluating the aetiology of neonatal meningitis.
متن کاملBlood Chemical Changes in Experimental Streptococcus Septicemia
The following changes have been found to occur in rabbits given fatal intravenous doses of Streptococcus hemolyticus: The blood sugar concentration drops at a constant rate throughout the disease, but does not reach a condition of hypoglycemia. Glycogen is present in the liver at death. The CO(2) capacity is lowered markedly at first, then returns to a somewhat higher level, at which it continu...
متن کاملFatal Septicemia in Macacus Rhesus Caused by a Streptococcus Decolorized
The interest which is being displayed in the group of pathogenic cocci which are decolorized by Gram's method of staining justifies the description of a streptococcus obtained from three monkeys (Macacus rhesus) which died spontaneously while in the laboratory. A further interest and importance attaches to the description of the streptococcus in view of the far greater use at the present time o...
متن کاملA longitudinal case series description of meningitis due to Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus in infants.
Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus, previously known as Streptococcus bovis biotype II.2, is known to cause multiple infectious complications, including bacterial meningitis, in adults. Only sporadic individual case reports have identified this pathogen as a cause of meningitis in infants. This study is the first to longitudinally document S. gallolyticus subsp. pasteurianus as a ca...
